My food adventures are about to take a new and exciting twist. I have been having some health issues lately and after some research I have found that some of the symptoms may stem from my love of all things gluten! That’s right….my pickiness never seemed to affect my ability to eat bread, pasta, soft pretzles…..and the list goes on.
I have decided to make an effort to eliminate as much gluten as possible from my daily eating to see if I start to feel better. After a life filled with gluten I don’t expect to be able to make the change over night. But, I want to be more aware of what exactly I am putting in my mouth. I am going to take it one week…..or more realistically one meal at a time and try to make informed decisions. If I start to feel better, GREAT! If not, maybe I will pick up some healthier eating habits along the way.
I made a trip to Sendik’s (where I normally shop) yesterday just to see what exactly I was up against. I can tell you this isn’t going to be easy. Almost everything that comes in a package has some sort of gluten in it. And, of course, all of the things I would normally put in my cart!
Last night for dinner was pretty easy. I made tacos with corn tortillas, chicken and avocados. Beans and Rice, both of which I made sure had no hidden gluten in them. This week the big challenge will be the office luncheon scheduled for Friday. I will do my best to make healthy informed decisions.
This may prove to be a lot easier of a challenge since I have already started tackling new foods. So…..there it is. It is in writing. Welcome to this new twist in my adventure with trying new foods and opening myself to a world of more than cheesburgers and pizza.
If any of you out there have any advice, I welcome it!
