For as long as I can remember I have eaten and loved black olives. I will eat them right out of the can, always have them covering my pizza, and filling up my pasta salad. But, there has always been something about green olives that kept me away. Most likely it was just the color green. Before Monday night I don’t know that I have ever eaten an entire green olive.
I went to a friends house Monday night and she made a Puerto Rican rice with green olives (Arroz con Gandules). Given my current need to try new things I happily gave the green olives a chance. And, I have to admit….I have been discriminating against the green olive simply because of its color for way too long. The texture of the green olive was alot like that of the black olive, so I didn’t have any problem with that. The taste is a lot stronger, but not in a bad way.
I will definitely be giving green olives a chance in the future, and may even make a trip to the olive bar at the Metro Market to see what other kind of olives I might enjoy!
